sempat?

Atau semput?

The last time I met people who just discovered I was getting married, they said,

“Kak, congratulations! We really didn’t see that coming!”

followed by,

“Bila kahwin?”

And when I answered, they said,

“HAH? SEMPAT KE NAK PREPARE?"

I know where those queries are coming from.

First, my partner isn’t exactly the marrying type.Yes, my man wasn’t exactly the marrying type. No one thought he would be ready to get married, I think? And much less to someone like me. We’re like 2 sides of different coins, if you really need to know.

Second, I have been keeping everything under wraps. No prep posts (only discreet and cryptic ones), no colour, cake or dress stories and so, no one really knew I was getting engaged, let alone married.

And lastly, since this "wedding bells news" came as a shocker to many people, they naturally think it was a shock and sudden decision for me as well.

Well, truth is, I’ve known since November ’09 that Mister had something up his sleeve. He texted me one morning, when I was sleeping in Tampin during Hari Raya Korban asking me,

“Ur ring size berapa?”.

And of course, since he is NOT the marrying type, I thought that he was joking. It took a lot of prodding (on my part to him) and a lot of persuasion (from my darling cousins) before I actually tried a ring on at Ampang Point for size. Yeap. He bought the merisik ring himself, though.

And then, they (his family) came in February 2010 during Chinese New Year and I swear it was the most nerve-wrecking thing I have ever been through in the entirety of my life. Nerve-wrecking because I was not allowed to be present during the discussions (luckily so, it was after lunch). Imagine, they talked from 4.00 p.m. up until 6.30 p.m.!

Mister was waiting by the road near my house and texting me every few minutes. At one point, he texted me and said,

“Just put the freaking ring on already!”

Haha, tak menyabar. As if I had a choice but to wait to be called downstairs. Alhamdulillah, everything went well. Our parents got along really well. They were laughing and joking as if they had known each other all their lives. Of course, Mama being Mama, she had to slot in my baby stories and baby pictures. Tak apa, redha saja lah.

Anyways, here, the few photos I took during merisik.

[TO BE CONTINUED IN ANOTHER POST BECAUSE THIS IS ALREADY SO PANJANG]
